Birmingham is England’s second-largest metropolitan area, after London

It’s located in the West Midlands, just about halfway between Manchester in the north and London in the south. There’s no shortage of activities to choose from – whether you are interested in culture, cuisine or commerce, Birmingham has it all. Icelandair flies directly to Birmingham from Keflavík, Iceland, all year round.

If music be the food of love, play on

Stratford-upon-Avon is about an hour’s drive from Birmingham, and is the birthplace of William Shakespeare (who is deftly quoted above). Day tours to this shrine of theatrical excellence are therefore a great option for those who wish to get closer to Shakespearean heritage and see how life at the banks of the river Avon was in the 16th century.

“Watt's” on

The West Midlands brought the world more than Shakespeare and his immortal words. Indeed, Birmingham was at the centre of the industrial revolution and many modern technologies originated in the city, such as the steam engine, known and used to this day. The city’s science museum is centrally located and a great visit for the inquisitive mind.

To market, to market

One of Birmingham’s most famous and popular shopping areas is known as The Bull Ring. Merchants have been selling their produce here since 1154, but obviously, commercial services have become a tad more modern since then. So much so, in fact, that the latest instalment of the shopping complex around the area is colloquially known as the “spaceship”.
