I would like to nominate my brother who wants to travel to the US along with an Icelandair Stopover in Iceland.
Since I read Icelandic children's author Jón Sveinsson's 'Nonni & Manni' when I was young, it's been my dream to explore Iceland while horseback riding.
I nominate my 6-year old daughter who dreams about whales all the time.
I'd love one day to bring her to Iceland to experience seeing humpbacks and minkes, and this contest to win a Surprise Stopover with Icelandair could be a great opportunity!
I'd like to nominate my father, a super tough man who rudders (both on-site indoor and outdoor), won the European Championship in his age class last year, and turned 80 this past November!
He was recently hospitalized for a triple bypass, but is now in great shape and thanks to rehabilitation, has already started again with his rigorous activity schedule! His dream now is to compete in Boston's Head of the Charles Regatta.
A stop in Iceland on the way, to hike in the mountains for a view of the beautiful scenery, would be a tremendous opportunity. He is retired though and is unable to afford it, so this Icelandair Surprise Stopover would be a dream for him!
Nominator: his daughter Kim
I nominated my 69-year-old father, Joe. He is a humble and charming dairy farmer who has not had more than three days off during the past year. He works every day on the family farm dawn to dusk, through summer heat, frigid winters, and when sick. He only took three days off last year; one day for my graduation, one day for a family reunion BBQ, and one more day for a farming event.
He loves to travel and is curious about the wider world and its history, but he has never traveled outside of North America. However, now travel is out of the question as he can only afford the minimum amount of help he needs, and is therefore tied to the everyday demands of the farm.
It would be truly rewarding to be able to take my father on a trip. As I see him growing older, I realize the time we have together is getting shorter, and I should take him on a trip sooner rather than later.
I myself have been to Iceland, having taken advantage of Icelandair’s Stopover. I know my father would love the incredible rugged landscape of Iceland, appreciate the hard workers of the fishing industry and the way people live. It would be a trip of a lifetime for him – and for me as well.
I'm nominating my husband Stephen because I'd love to surprise him with the gift of a return trip to Iceland for our wedding anniversary. We were married at Thingvellir National Park before moving from the United States to the UK!
